GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chase Clausen scored three goals in Guilford College's 10-8 win over cross-town rival Greensboro College Wednesday at the Armfield Athletic Center.
The Pride (0-3) struck first, scoring the first two goals, but Guilford answered with four straight to take a 4-2 lead after one quarter. The teams were even for the next two quarters and Guilford took a 7-5 lead into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter opened with a flurry as teams combined for five goals after which time Guilford led, 10-7, with nine minutes left in regulation. Greensboro's Ryan Kissner scored with 4:26 left but the Pride could not narrow the gap further.
Clausen scored on all three shots for Guilford (1-1) and also scooped up two ground balls. Haupt, Henry Farley and Connor Milton each scored two goals. Goalie Jacob Broome led the team with four ground balls and made 10 saves.
Jaeger Carlyle paced the Pride with three goals and Maxx Aiken added two. Scott Schowalter had both of the Pride's assists. Skip Jakupi amassed a game-high 13 ground balls. Mitchell Kanowicz had seven saves in the loss.
The Quakers next play Saturday, Feb. 23 at Piedmont College at 3:00 p.m. Guilford returns home Sunday, Mar. 3 against DeSales University.
