Guilford Opens League Play With 15-7 Win at Sweet Briar
SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Becca Colley and E'leyna Garcia both scored four goals in Guilford College's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse victory at Sweet Briar College Saturday. The victory marked Guilford's (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) third straight.
Lily Colley scored all three of her goals in the opening 12-and-a-half minutes, which sparked the Quakers to an early 5-1 lead. The Vixens' Olivia Hurt and Torrey Schwartz scored consecutive goals to bring the hosts to within 5-3, but Becca Colley and Eleanora Keene scored in the final three minutes, which gave Guilford a 7-3 halftime lead.
Garcia and Becca College both scored twice as the Quakers netted the second-half's first four goals and took a commanding 11-3 advantage. The margin grew to as many as 10 goals before Sweet Briar scored twice in the final 29 seconds.
Becca Colley had two assists to finish with a career-high six points. She also had six ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover. Garcia and Lily Colley both scored five points. Lily Colley and Keene both picked up a game-high nine ground balls. Liza Mettler made 13 saves in goal and grabbed four ground balls.
Hurt's three goals paced Sweet Briar (4-2, 0-2 ODAC). Kimberly Orchowski scored twice and dished out a game-high three assists for five points. Sweet Briar's Caroline Baker was strong in goal with 21 saves and five ground balls.
Coach Sarah Lamphier's Quakers are back in action Wednesday (3/13) at league-rival Randolph College.
