Guilford Rallies Past Roanoke, 19-15
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Lily Colley scored a career-high seven goals and two assists in Guilford's College's 19-15 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win over Roanoke College Wednesday.
The Quakers (14-1, 8-0 ODAC) erased a 12-9 second half deficit for the first women's lacrosse victory over the Maroons (8-7, 7-2 ODAC) in school history. Roanoke had won the previous 28 meetings in the series, which dates to 1985.
Guilford's E'leyna Garcia netted four of her five goals in the second half of the Quakers' comeback victory, which extended the team's winning streak to a school-record 13 games. Guilford's Eleanora Keene also scored a career-high five goals, including the go-ahead tally with 8:10 left in regulation. The game-winner and Garcia's four scores came during a decisive 10-3 Quakers' run to end the game.
Roanoke closed the first half with a 3-0 spurt and grabbed 9-8 halftime lead. The run continued into the second half as Jamie Golden scored her fourth goal of the game 5:48 into the period, which opened a 12-9 Maroons' margin.
Garcia and Keene combined for seven of the Quakers' 10 goals in the decisive burst, but senior goalie Liza Mettler kept Guilford within striking range with seven of her game-high 10 saves in the second half, including three stops on free-position shots.
Golden and Darragh Evarts both scored four times. Evarts added three assists, four draw controls and a team-high four ground balls. Allison Bonanno added three goals, two assists and a game-high six draws.
Guilford closes the regular season at home Saturday (4/20) versus Washington and Lee University at 2:00 p.m.
