GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) recognized Guilford College and four Quakers' student-athletes for academic excellence Wednesday. Guilford was one of 308 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA lauded as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2016-17 academic year. Honorees recorded a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
Guilford's team honor was made possible in part to the four Quakers tabbed as members of the IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. Seniors Megan Gaeth and Sammi Milbourn, along with juniors Kelly Martin and Sarah Sedaghat, were among 532 student-athletes from 159 different Division III institutions recognized. Honorees are of junior academic standing or higher and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Gaeth graduated with honors last May with a biology degree. She was a four-year letter winner who appeared in 47 career games. A regular on the dean's list and Guilford's Student-Athlete Honor Roll, Gaeth was a three-time Academic All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selection.
Martin, a dean's list exercise and sport sciences/health sciences double major, is a three-year starting attacker. She is a three-time Academic All-ODAC pick and has been on Guilford's Student-Athlete Honor Roll all six semesters. An education studies minor, Martin will preside over Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2017-18.
Milbourn graduated with departmental honors in May with degrees in exercise and sport sciences and health sciences. The four-year starting goaltender was a two-time All-ODAC performer and ranks among the Quakers' career leaders in saves and goals against average. Also a psychology minor, the three-time Academic All-ODAC honoree starts graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro this fall.
Sedaghat is a three-year letter winner who has backed up Milbourn in each of her three campaigns. The six-time dean's list exercise and sport sciences/health sciences double major has appeared on Guilford's Student-Athlete Honor Roll every semester of her college career. She is also a three-time Academic All-ODAC honoree.
Coach Sarah Lamphier's Quakers posted a 6-10 overall record (3-5 ODAC) in 2017 and could return as many as 13 letter winners next year, including Martin and Sedaghat.
