GREENSBORO, N.C. - Guilford's volleyball team split Senior Day matches with Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Bridgewater College and Meredith College Saturday in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
The Quakers (8-14, 3-5 ODAC) took the day's first set, but Bridgewater rallied to win the next three and the match, 16-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-21.
The Eagles (11-11, 4-3 ODAC) earned the win with a balanced attack. Senior Katie Baker had 14 digs, five blocks and a team-high 11 kills on .381 hitting. Mara Hogan added nine kills and a team-high 17 digs. Katie Long had eight kills and Bethany Doman and Cadie Castle contributed seven kills and four blocks apiece. each to help Bridgewater (11-11, 4-3 ODAC) take the match. Lindsay Kallam added 12 digs and 38 assists.
Malikah French's match-high 13 kills on .417 hitting led Guilford. Senior Laura Kopald, Brittany DeCesare and senior Mary Moody all had nine kills in the match. Setter Taylor Whitley had 32 assists, 12 digs and three aces. Taylor Phillips, another senior, picked up a match-high 25 digs.
In the second game of the day, Guilford came out with a vengeance and beat the Avenging Angels, 27-25, 25-22, 25-16.
The seniors led the way as Kopald and Emma Gunn paced the Quakers with 11 kills apiece. Gunn hit .579 in the match. Moody added seven kills and 14 digs and Phillips had a team-high 16 digs in the match. Whitley set up 39 assists and DeCesare chipped in eight kills.
Meredith (14-9), which beat Guilford in four sets Sept. 7, got 11 kills from Molly Markley. Rebecca Yow, Caroline Cobb and Anna Hayes all had six kills in the match. Clarke Glendenning led the team with 19 assists and also picked up 13 digs. Kara Baughman added 13 assists and Emily Anderson contributed a match-high 25 digs in the loss.
Guilford is back in action Thursday (10/20) against Roanoke College in a 6:30 p.m. ODAC match in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
