Guilford's Vaughn Lands All-America Honor

SALEM, Va. (12-20-08) - Guilford College senior receiver Kevin Vaughn earned Third Team All-America honors from D3football.com Saturday. Vaughn becomes the Quakers' 21st football All-American and the first since Chris Barnette '07 was a first-team selection in 2006.

Select NCAA Division III sports information directors and D3football.com staff made the all-star selections from a pool of 200 students who garnered first- or second-team all-region honors. A total of 75 students were recognized, plus 25 honorable mention picks.

Vaughn, a 2008 First Team D3football All-South and All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference pick, led Guilford with 76 receptions for 1,197 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games. He is ranked fifth nationally in receiving yards per game and 13th in receptions per game through contests of Dec. 13. Vaughn averaged 7.6 receptions and 119.7 receiving yards per game, both league highs. He also led ODAC receivers with 11 touchdowns and ranked fifth among the league's scoring leaders and sixth in all-purpose yards per game. Vaughn had 50 catches for 723 yards with seven scores in six ODAC games, including 15 grabs for 221 yards and two touchdowns at Randolph-Macon College, all career highs. He set a Guilford standard with eight games of at least 100 receiving yards and had five contests with at least eight catches. Vaughn concluded his career ranked among Guilford's all-time leaders in receiving yards (3,007, 2nd), receptions (189, 5th) and touchdown catches (24, 5th).

Coach Kevin Kiesel's club finished with a 4-6 overall record (1-5 ODAC). The Quakers lose nine seniors from the 2008 team, including Vaughn, and expect as many as 47 letter winners back for the 2009 campaign.
