WHEELING, W.Va. – The Guilford golf team closed out the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship in ninth after finishing 18-over-par with a score of 302 on the Speidel Jones Course at the Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia.
The No. 1 ranked Quakers are 12 shots off the paced established by No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan, which finished six-over-par with a score of 290 on the team leaderboard. Huntingdon College is three shots off the pace in second while St. John's (Minn.) is third at 15-over-par.
James Mishoe and Sam Davidson are the top individuals for Guilford, finishing the opening round with a 3-over-par score of 74. He is four shots behind the trio of Will Hocker (Webster), Jimmy Morton (Illinois Wesleyan) and Glavine Schugel (St. John's), who top the individual leaderboard with a one-under-par score of 70.
Mishoe closed out the round with birdies at the fifth and ninth hole along with 11 pars. Davidson ended his day with birdies on the 12th and 17th green to go along with 11 pars.
Jack Lee finished the opening round with a five-over-par score of 76, closing in a tie for 48th. Lee tallied birdies on the 10th and 12th green along with 10 pars, including six on the front nine.
Addison Manring came through with a seven-over-par score of 78 for the Quakers and will enter the second day in a tie for 82nd. Manring, who didn't record a birdie during the opening round, finished with 11 pars.
Louis Lambert rounded out the scorecard for Guilford with a 10-over-par score of 81. Lambert came through with birdies at the 14th and 16th greens along with eight pars.
The tournament continues on Wednesday with the Quakers taking to the course at 12:40 p.m.
