Sophomores Shine in Guilford's Season-Opening Men's Lacrosse Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Dylan Haupt scored four goals and two assists and teammate Daniel Hughey added three goals and three helpers in Guilford College's 15-9 win over Ferrum College Wednesday night in the Quakers' season opener.

Six different Quakers (1-0) scored and five had at least two goals. Duncan Fitzgerald scored three goals and Adam Fiore notched two goals and three assists. Chase Clausen also tallied twice.

The Quakers won 16 of the game's 25 face-offs, 15 by Connor Manning in 20 chances. He helped Guilford keep possession during the middle two quarters when the Quakers outscored the Panthers, 11-5. Manning picked up six ground balls, one off the team lead held by Nick Huckins. Thomas Deane was strong in goal with 12 saves, seven in the second half.

The Panthers scored four of the game's final five goals, three by Nick Smith, who led all scorers with five goals.

Guilford hosts Oneonta State Saturday at 1 pm.
