NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Guilford College's softball team posted wins over Waynesburg University (5-1, 5 innings) and Centenary University (10-5) Saturday at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
Guilford's Makayla Crawford led off the Quakers' first game with her fourth home run of the season and Katy Holt added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to give Guilford an early 2-0 lead. The runs proved all the Quakers needed as Katie McNeill scattered three hits and yielded one run in a five-inning complete game.
Cat Allstatt had two hits for Waynesburg (1-5).
Yale's grand slam highlighted the Quakers' five-run sixth inning. The Cyclones yielded four straight walks in the inning. The fourth free pass, issued to Jordan Starke, pushed across the go-ahead run. Yale stepped up and cleared the bases with her first homer of the year, which provided the game's final margin.
McNeill (5-1) earned her second victory of the game with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. She allowed just one hit and fanned two. Aukamp had three hits and three RBI to lead the Quakers' offense. Jessica Beck also had three hits for Guilford. Yale finished 2-for-4 with a run and five RBI.
Seven different Cyclones had hits in Centenary's season opener. Samantha Gabriele (0-1) walked four in 3.1 innings of relief and took the loss.
