Roanoke Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter

The Guilford College women's basketball hit the road to face Roanoke College. After only trailing by five, the Quakers ultimately fell to the Maroons, 64-44.

In the first period, Roanoke (10-2, 5-0) scored the first point but Guilford (4-8, 2-5) responded as it scored the next nine points. The Maroons then scored six-straight to pull within two. The Quakers held on and led 14-10 at the end of the first period.

Roanoke wasted little time in the second as it went on an 11-0 run to grab a seven-point (21-14) lead with 4:26 remaining in the half. GC slowly tried to cut the deficit but the hosts held true to lead 28-23 going into the locker room.

The third period was an even bout as both squads scored 11 points but the Maroons still held a five-point edge (39-34) going into the final 10 minutes of regulation.

To start the fourth, the Quakers pulled within three but Roanoke then took control. The hosts used a 19-2 run to lead 62-42 and eventually went on for the 20-point victory.

Lindsay Gauldin led the team with a double-double as she scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Ashtyn Zeigler was the next highest scorer with 10 points.

Roanoke's Kristina Harrel led all scorers with 20 points.

Guilford will host Bridgewater College on Saturday, January 22 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference showdown. Tip-off is slated for 4:30 p.m.
