GREENSBORO, N.C. – Audrey Helfenbein and Alli Earwood both scored four times in Guilford College's 17-7 lacrosse victory over visiting Pfeiffer University Saturday in both teams' season opener. Helfenbein also added three assists for the Quakers (1-0) and finished with a game-high seven points.
Helfenbein's man-up goal 17:28 before halftime started a 5-1 Quakers' run that ended the period and opened a 10-4 Guilford lead at the half. She had three goals and one assist and Earwood had two tallies and one helper at the break.
Pfeiffer (0-1) could not rally in the second half as Guilford's Madison Iandoli dominated the draw circle. The senior collected a game- and career-high 13 draws, the fourth-highest single-game total in school history and the most in a game by a Quaker since 2015. Iandoli also contributed a goal, one assist, four ground balls, and four caused turnovers in a solid all-around game. Linemate Nia Gill also kept the Falcons at bay by causing a personal-best seven turnovers, which stands second in school history. Gill also scored twice and scooped up a game-high six ground balls. Guilford junior goalie Kersten Daneau had six ground balls and six saves.
The Quakers had six different goal scorers in the game, including McCaine Brandt and Reagan Bednar who both tallied three goals. Brandt also had two assists and caused four turnovers. As a team, Guilford forced 25 miscues, which stands second in school history.
Pfeiffer's Gabby Bosak scored a game-best five goals. Teammate Meagan Bourque added two scores, two assists, and five draw controls. Jovitta Hernandez made six saves in goal.
