GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's soccer team remains undefeated after beating Meredith College 1-0 I double-overtime on Saturday afternoon.
The first half was rather uneventful, with each team seeing one solid attempt at a goal. Guilford's attempt came with 14:02 remaining on the clock, as the only thing separating a sprint Crystal Rivas from the keeper was a slower defender. The defense proved to be enough though, as Rivas was whistled for taking down her opposition.
Half two was similar, despite opening with a ton of movement on the behalf of the Quaker offense. Guilford caught a break with 10 minutes remaining in regulation as their Lauren Webster was given a red card after holding, pulling and yanking on Rivas. This meant that the visitors would spend the remainder of the contest a player down.
Overtime period one was uneventful and led into a second one.
It took only 1:04 before the Quakers were able to finally put the Avenging Angels to bed. Their goal was the result of a Claire Hill header that was redirected by Sarah Hall into the back of the goal.
The game-winner is Hall's second goal of the season, helping her to rank second on the squad in the scoring column.
Ady Franken made two saves to maintain her perfect 4-0 record in goal.
Guilford was the stronger team offensively, leading the shots (19-4) and shot on goal (7-2) counts.
The Quakers look to keep rolling as they travel to Methodist University for a 6 p.m. matchup on Wednesday
