Guilford Volleyball Team Wins Twice at Cougar Classic

DANVILLE, Va. – Guilford College's volleyball team opened the season with a pair of wins at the Cougar Classic Friday. The Quakers downed Roanoke College, 25-13, 25-18, 25-27, 25-18, in their first match, and took a 25-17, 21-25, 25-9, 25-15 win over William Peace University in the nightcap.

Jessica Sheek and Morgan Tompkins had 12 kills apiece against Roanoke. Tompkins chipped in with 24 kills and Tina Eucker contributed 40 assists. Guilford's Casey Davis added 11 kills and 14 digs.

Sheek led the way versus William Peace with 11 put-aways and three service aces. Teammate Christian Ritter registered nine kills for the second straight match and also had 14 digs. Eucker set up 38 kills and also served three aces.

Coach Emily Gann's Quakers (2-0) conclude play at Averett University Saturday versus Southern Virginia University and the host Cougars.
