LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Guilford volleyball team faced Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 3-2 (26-24, 25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 15-12) victory.

The match was close from the start and saw much back and forth action. In the first set, EMU (11-11, 4-7 ODAC) rallied late to tie the score at 24-24 but Guilford (15-7, 7-3 ODAC) responded with two straight kills to pick up the 26-24 set victory.

Guilford also won the second set before the Royals came back to earn a 25-21 win in set three.

Eastern Mennonite jumped out to an early lead in the fourth and never looked back en route to a 25-20 victory to force a fifth set.

During the fifth and final set, both teams fought hard as there were two lead changes and two ties within the first eight points played. Ultimately, Guilford gained the advantage and held on to secure the set, 15-12, and the match, 3-2.

Leading Guilford offensively were Christian Ritter and Cam Blankenship with 17 and 16 kills, respectively. Tina Eucker added a match-high 49 assists, while Bryce Smith paced the team in digs with 23.

For the Royals, Meredith Stinnette recorded 17 kills. Tori Wigley added 44 assists and Delanie Miller contributed a team-leading 29 digs.

The Quakers are back in action November 25 when they welcome Emory & Henry College to Ragan-Brown Field House for a 6:00 p.m. match.
